January 27, 2010 Our Last Day

It's our final day in the "spicy girl's" homeland. We look forward to returning home and reuniting with family and friends. We have been a busy little family over the past 2 days. On Tuesday afternoon we traveled as a group to the US Consulate for our swearing in. As each family was summoned up to sign on the dotted line, cheers rose from the waiting area as we celebrated the final step in our long journey. The documents and approvals are complete, and when we step off the plane in Chicago Mallorie will be a US citizen. She is the best little traveler. Planes and buses are just another fun thing to do and we are thankful for that blessing!! We ended the evening at a local German restaurant enjoying a meal with our friends the BeDells. This morning following breakfast were the traditional Red Couch photos. We dressed our girl in her pretty pink Chinese dress knowing full well she would not find this event amusing. She did not disappoint, and soon after being placed on the Red Couch with her "Hunan" sisters the tears began to flow. Oh well!!
So today we pack for our long journey home beginning at 5:00 am on Thursday morning. We have 3 flights to endure before touching ground in Atlanta. Guangzhou to Shanghai, Shanghai to Chicago, and Chicago to Atlanta. Moma has lots of rice cakes for the journey! I close with this final update from China - thank you for following our adoption story and stay tuned for our transition to Mallorie's new homeland!! Remember to pray for us throughout the day as we journey home.

  1. It's Colleen, Kellie's sister....

How beautiful your little girl is. It sounds like you've had an amazing if somewhat emotional trip. No worries, give her time and pretty soon she'll be clinging to you with all the love her little heart has. Babies love stability and routine and knowing that someone is there when they are upset. She's had an unusual and I dare say not routine life up until now. When you get her home finally and settle in to your new life together I have no doubts it will all come together.

Travel safe and above all have fun, don't sweat what you cannot change right then.
